I'm not twiddling my thumbs whilst I wait for workmen, wait for the weather, whilst I just wait....I started more sorting out today and came across two pieces of embroidered cloth which I thought might look good pinned together. Definitely a distraction from the task at hand but I couldn't resist.
As for the 'sorting out'. In truth I think I'm just moving disorganised piles from one place to another and I still can't find anything when I need it.
Moving samples forward, mixing them up, joining different surfaces....all in the name of experimentation with a hope it evolves, informs new samples. For now these three pieces are just pinned. I will add stitch to the seams and most likely leave it at that. By doing that though I am hoping to gain more ideas for more samples, more ideas for cloth and paper combinations. Sampling is ongoing, it never really ends.
In my blog post yesterday I mentioned I had been working on this piece, finishing this piece. These images were taken with my phone as I progressed each stage. I measured, I marked, I pinned, I tacked...I then put it together on the sewing machine. The next stage is hand finishing, hand stitched edges, adorning the surface and edges with Suffolk puffs. This will be my first finished piece for France. One down, two zillion to go.....
If you are registered for''Patched Pockets'' you should have received an e mail and video from me this morning. If you haven't received that please get in touch. Two and a half days to go...yikes...it's exciting.
There are four pocket tops now, all in different stages of completion. I pieced another one yesterday because I had a hankering to see how the lilac circle cloth would look next to white and Broderie Anglaise.
I won't be picking these up again this week , I am frantically trying to finish my work from pocket class. Next week, my free week, I hope to make progress for sampling class and work on these a little more.
I am also getting requests for more Artist books.....big smile here......so that is going to start happening in the background too. My first little play pieces for that have been pieced this morning and I will share those tomorrow.
Damp stretched, lined and pinned, that's this piece, the back of which you can see in the second image. Damp stretched, not yet lined and not yet pinned, the other piece in these images. I do like it.....a lot. That piece will be backed, pinned lined and titivated starting today. The other piece will be finished with the girls in ''embroidered pockets''. I started that process this morning, on camera...there's still a long way to go.
All I need to decide now is what to back the pink and white piece with, choose my fabric and get on with it. The sewing machine is up as is the ironing board. The pouch which holds the cloth choices for backing is to hand and I have pins, scissors and thread. Should be easy peasy.......
easy-peasy
iːzɪˈpiːzi/
adjective
BRITISHinformal
very straightforward and easy (used by or as if by children)
I'm making steady progress. Yesterday I machine stitched the pin pillows and the pouch in the afternoon. Last night I began trimming, turning, tacking and embellishing the seams by hand. The pouch is the nearest to completion but they should all be finished by bed time today....at least that's the plan.
There is a busy afternoon ahead too. Lace begins tomorrow!! Woo...how did that come round so fast. I hope the lace girls have their titivating bits ready and you may even need a notebook and pencil...the first one is a long one....don't say you weren't warned.
