A partially stitched silk panel, the next piece in this puzzle. There is more embroidery needed on this surface but I am itching to make a pocket, positively straining at the leash. I will have to contain myself a little longer though.
The pattern here is hand drawn, hand doodled onto silk Dupion......large petals, floral shapes which are then embellished with French knots and chain stitch. Once the surface embroidery is complete I will attach it to the main piece and have a lot of fun playing with the seam. I will also then be able to scratch my pocket itch!!
White, white white....I love white. A white pocket in progress. More gimp and a partial flower worked in cutwork with lace cloth filling the cut away areas. I trailed some gimp across it, I couldn't help myself.
I'm running late today. Don't ask why because I don't know. I haven't even been to Flickr yet. Don't worry, I will be over soon. I think it's going to be one of those days when everything happens in slow motion........
With fingers crossed that Typepad doesn't go 'poof' without notice I bring you applique, petals, Liberty cloth, white cloth, embroidery...prettiness. This may well have more petals next time you see it...balance. I haven't quite made my mind up yet what else it needs, that's still under consideration.
Although I said thank you last night I must say it again. Thanks for all the birthday messages. I am a year older but no wiser. I am now the happy owner of more gorgeous books than you can shake a stick at, gorgeous cloth of varying types, bathroom smelly things that will enable me to titivate myself, scented candles, earrings, embroidery scissors, pretty buttons, chocolates, yes chocolates, very expensive cream toffee, new paint brushes and on and on. I am very lucky. I ate out not once but twice yesterday and believe it or not I have yet to have a piece of cake!
Domesticity calls today.....back to normal. I must have clean floors. I must have a clean bathroom and we won't even begin to talk about the ironing.
Re your commnets.....don't worry if you think it hasn't posted. I am finding them EVERYHERE...
A scattering of appliquepetals on white silk....the second chapter in this piece of cloth. The first was ruffles....do you remember those? There will be a third but not until the applique is finished and not until the girls have seen it. For the petals I used some shop bought Broderie Anglaise and some cotton cloth that I had embroidered with cross stitch. There is something very satisfying about using your own embroidered fabric for applique, for any form of surface embellishment. I feel that it makes the work more ''mine''....that there is a little bit more of me in there.
I was up with the lark again this morning. The car was filled with things to take to the tip....the local refuse collection centre for heavy, uncollectable items to be more specific. It is a Holiday day in England but the good people of refuse collection were still open, working hard and helping me unload enough packaging to make 4 zillion toilet rolls once it is recycled. Just call me ''mother earth''.....
Yes, more petals. They are different, new, I added them yesterday. I would guess that I am more than halfway to finishing this piece....not long now. Well I say not long, probably quite long as they are time consuming. I'm not complaining though, I love time consuming and I love repetitive.
I have added a tiny glimpse of something else today too. I don't want you all falling asleep and having nightmares about applique petals. So, the other piece you can see is a sneek peek at a new pin pillow as that's what we are on in simply stitch...pin pillows. Who would have guessed? Only one for now, the other three will have to wait a while......
I've still got petals on my mind. Petals of the applique kind and drawn petals, sketched petals. I added more petals to my silk piece last night. Meanwhile I am struggling a little with a small piece of artwork. I say struggling, I think I am getting there but it's been H A R D. I think I was trying too hard, too fixated on the outcome. Later today I am hopeful of making some headway and it has definitely helped looking back at old stuff. So the books are out again and my table is covered in old ledgers and papers. Regardless of my creative block......it's good to look back at this old work.
The flower on the left is finished, the one on the right is in progress. The flower on the left was worked to inform the flower on the right, to get a sense of proportion, scale, placement. The flower on the left is part of a sample, a sample that will be part of the sampler cloth......I do hope you're keeping up. I just run away with myself at times. There is colour in the flower on the left. The flower on the right will be white on white. It takes time, applique with petals is a slow process...at least it is in my house. I reckon I will need to applique approximately five of these flowers in all....that's a lot of petals. That's a lot of templates to cut, to be covered in cloth and then applied to silk. I best get a move on then.....
This piece has moved on since you last saw it. More lace has been added to one edge along with tiny cross stitch appliqued circles and three little cross stitched hearts. I am unsure at the moment as to how much this will grow from this point. I have my indecisive head on today. I adore this so much that perhaps I don't want it ever to be finished. I also have a quandary....I talk about this in the video and by doing that, by verbalising my dilemma I do have a little more clarity.
