In the first two images new work is laid across work you have seen before. The white, the lace like cloth with paper is work which is developing in class.....as is the piece in the third image
The next piece is paper and scrim. I am working on this as and when, picking it up and putting it down when the mood takes me, kind of like a doodle. There's something very therapeutic about methodically and rhythmically embroidering buttonhole stitch seams.
I'm considering lace, more specifically the lace I have been working with this week. I have no problem deciding how to use the open pieces, the pieces which have holes edged with hand embroidery, which are light and floaty. The top piece however? I have been pondering that piece. It has a unique handle to it, it is light, at least the base cloth is light yet it doesn't have the fragility of the open pieces.
Pondering has led me to believe that surface is perfect for garments. Thing is I don't do garments. Why don't I do garments? Because I don't know how.
Everyone has to start somewhere right? It may as well be now, here with this cloth. Don't get too excited though, I still have to actually make more of this cloth first. I also have to find a pattern. AND.....there won't be any full dresses, blouses, skirts or anything being made. I'm thinking a bodice? A sleeve? A bolero front? they may be the best places to start.....
I have been playing with this a little bit, creating more cloth with snippets, off cuts, scraps. It reminds me of the froth on a bubble bath....yes really. I suppose you need to see it in ''real life'' to get a proper sense of that......you will just have to trust me.
