Some work in progress, two pieces of embroidery in hoops. One of these is tiny, the embroidered area measures 4 x 4 inches. That one is another page for my embroidered cloth book. The larger piece is an embroidered cover for a sketchbook and measures 9 x 4 inches. Neither of these is very big I know but I am not skimping on the stitch. I'm aiming to create textured, rich and fascinating embellished surfaces. As you can see, I am having lots of fun with ribbon and trims too.
The past couple of days have been spent with my sewing machine.....creating soft, delicate surfaces for embroidery. Some of these pieces will be used to extend my veil like piece, some will be used for page overlays in artist books and some will go in my stash pile to be used in sampling. It's so satisfying to create this cloth.....it's individual, no two pieces are ever the same and there's a certain amount of contentment embroidering upon a surface you have personally created.
It's Mothers day today...I have been spoilt and I am treating myself to more of this cloth later too.
This piece is quite small, you can see it here in a 7 inch hoop. My intention was to create a cloth and paper collage which I could then stitch into, tear up and add to my latest Artist Book. Thing is, I don't know if I can bring myself to do that now or whether I will be tempted to keep it purely as a collaged sheet of embroidery stitches for future reference, for future inspiration. Having said that....If I feel that way about any more of these pieces I will never fill my little book in time for London. I will give myself a good talking to and see what comes from that.
This one has a base of tissue papers, (several layers) and cloth strips were added before I began to stitch. A few beads managed to sneak their way into the French knots and I was going to say there's not a sequin in sight but there is...a solitary sequin on the lace overlay. What can I say, I have no self control. The images today are a good illustration of things we will be working with in my new class which begins on April 17. You can read more about that here.
Finally, I am so far behind on answering comments, saying thank you, responding in general. I am so, so sorry. I know we all have many demands on our time, I'm just useless at time management that's all. Please bear with me, I am more grateful than you will ever know for every single comment, note, visit......
Three hoops, three pieces in progress. The two scratty pieces are FME samples which will be mounted in pages of little books, artist books. (they will be tidied up first I promise) The white piece is hand embroidery, progress towards a little pillow. If you look closely at the white one you will see tiny seed beads embedded in the clusters of French knots.
I'm not here today....I put this post together yesterday and pre timed it......yes...I'm a technology whizz! (Not really, it was easy.) I am here, my first visit to mums since we lost my best friend Stinky Tinks....it will be very strange indeed.
Evidence...evidence that I do have lots in progress here. Alphabet silk, flowery doodled silk and lace cloth. Each of these is at a different stage of completion with the alphabet piece being the largest.
OK.....France again...you were warned. A video for you in which I ''bang on'' about the workshop and other things....
Your response to yesterdays post was phenomenal...thank you. I'm still not back to ''normal'' but this morning the unpacking, tidying and sorting out took a back seat as I introduced myself to Clara and prettified her a little ready for next Monday.
Friday, lace cloth and Suffolk puffs. The lace cloth here is for my workshop inFrance. I need 20 pieces...so far I have two. I'm not worried.....it is achievable, a couple of days intense work on the sewing machine and I can put my little kits together for the class.
My current online classes end this coming week. I will then have around four weeks to immerse myself in all things France. I would still like to create at least one more pin pillow, at least two more pockets and another three pieces of paperwork. Alongside that I hope to put together a few little ''goody bags'' made up of lace cloth, doodled cloth, Suffolk puffs and buttons.
In essence that is a mini list of what you can expect to see on here between now and then.
I will be listing a new class soon too, to begin when I get back from my trip. Keep an eye open for a short video regarding that sometime in the next seven days.
Same process.....scrim, metallic silk tissue, one with holes and one without. These have different uses, create different effects in embroidery, catch the light differently, handle differently. I have immediate plans for the piece without holes. The other? I just like to have a stash of that one. (I like to have a stash of both actually....)
Two pieces being worked on in class, both still have some way to go before they're finished. The white piece is in its very early stages and I will be doing more with that over the coming days.
The red piece is slightly misleading I think. It will look a lot different to this when it's finished. This particular pocket will be two pockets.....it will become clearer when I have done quite a bit more stitching on it.
My collection of paperworkis growing....I will show you a new piece tomorrow...
