We have been playing with titivations in class again this week. We embroidered funky puffs, (fabric beads), we embroidered trims and edges too.
These images show both the 'old' and the new. The 'old' for reference, the 'old' as a very useful resource.
I am off to London for a few days later this week.
I will mostly be unsupervised.
There will be shopping.
I can't wait.
Pieced papers, buttonhole edges, ribbon, bullion knots, hand embroidered buttons and edges......a calm pastime, relaxing, therapeutic....
This is what i've been doing, along with class work which I can't share.
This paper is a dream to stitch into. It's called lace paper and I just ordered more.
These pieces were created some time ago and were brought out earlier this week for a 'one to one' Zoom session I was having with a member of my class group.
I was so happy to see them again so thought I would share with you.
All of these pieces have been worked on 'vintage' hankies which have been cut up and joined to other pieces, some of them with Liberty print bindings.
It's been an embellishment week in class this week. It will be next week too.
So far we have embroidered prairie points, dangly chain things and hand embroidered ribbon.
The pieces we are creating are suitable for finished fabric works and artist books so it's a win win.
I am particularly enamoured with the embroidered ribbon and also the fact it is stitched in such a way that I can cut lengths from it without ot falling apart!
This piece, the woven, embroidered ribbon piece was inspired by an old photograph of a similar woven ribbon surface I made some time ago.
It gave me an itch to make more and this little artist book needed a wrap so hey presto.
It still needs work but I'm on it.
I've been a bit quiet this week. There is so much going on here at the moment and it's likely I will be quiet again this weekend.
However you are spending yours have a good one.
Lace cloth, I always say this but I'm going to say it again......I forget how much I love working on this fabric when I am working on other things, then I start with this again and fall in love for the millionth time.
The smaller of these pieces is new, the bigger piece a sample from some time ago. I am however working on that 'old' piece as I realised there was so much more I could do with it.
I spent this morning looking at dangly things, page fillers and edges.
Tomorrow I will be spending most of the day making more of these, building my stash for artist book making.

Todays work is more sampling of colour with stitch but on a much smaller scale.
These pieces were worked at the same time as the larger pieces.
The large ones measure ten by seven inches, these are much smaller, only four by three inches.
I have been asked if these will be for sale at some point. I'm sorry but no, I keep these type of samples for reference, for future classes and my own personal collection.
I do however have one little embroidered gingham book for sale here.
I hope you enjoy looking at this little collection today. Next time you see them I hope they will be in book form.
I started these stitch samples a couple of months ago in the last sewing circle class.
They were waiting for a 'resolution', just samples on blue gingham, not backed, not resolved.
Yesterday they found homes on more gingham, gingham mounts stitched simply around all four sides with running stitch.
I'm a little bit in love.
Now I have to decide the next step. How to store them, preserve them. I'm thinking some kind of book. (as if you couldn't guess that, it's always a book ha ha)

I've been making a lot of lace cloth over the past week as part of 'sewing circle' and today I want to say to the girls in class......if you are struggling, threads snapping, anxiety ridden then look at the possibilities, keep going! Practice, practice, practice.
In this artist book are layers of paper, layers of lace cloth embellished with buttons, sequins, beads and hand stitch. The page with the light blue cloth at the edge is one of my favourite ever pages.
All these elements on their own would not cause a second glance but put them all together.......
