I'm continuing to work in the little book from this post. This double page spread has embroidered lace, a cigarette silk, some ribbon and a few embroidered flowers.
Last time I spoke about working the page edges in a different way to buttonhole stitch. This edge has tiny pompoms all around it.
Every page won't have pompoms or buttonhole stitch. Hopefully I can come up with more ideas.
My cloth book has been resting as I ran out of silk but my new stuff has arrived so I am on it.
Last time I was here I showed three pieces which need to be finished. Here's number four. There are other little notebooks which are unfinshed too so I guess you can add seven, eight and nine to that list.
I created this little book some time ago. I actually made two of these and one was sold. It's about time this one got more attention so I have begun to add to the pages and embellish the page edges.
Up to now I have added buttonhole stitch to two pages edges. I think I need to be more inventive going forward.
Hi everyone, how've you been? I hope you all had a great few days.
I've been 'stocktaking' since I was last here, deciding which of my unfinished pieces are 'pressing'.
The answer? These three.
(there's a lot of basting on the paper piece hence the visible strands of cotton)
Progress, albeit slow with my cloth pages.
The latest one is crammed with tiny web stitches.
I love this one. I'm asking myself if I have it in me to stitch a whole yard of cloth with nothing but web stitches.
Having once embroidered three yards of silk with cross stitch I'm thinking why not.
If nothing else it would keep me out of trouble.
I'm just losing myself in these simple little pages at the moment, no planning, no direction just 'mindless' stitching and drifting away with my thoughts.
I seem to be compelled to stitch things together, to join them page like.
I often find I have a lot of finished pieces lying around and that's when I decide they would be safer joined, attached to each other.
That's usually how a cloth sample book evolves.
The first image here shows the edge of the first two pieces which I am in the process of attaching with buttonhole stitch.
It's a momentous day today. My husband, a health care worker, a nurse gets his first Covid vaccine in an hour!
Maybe we can all start to breathe again soon.
One of these little hand made notebooks has inspired this little bit of stitching onto silk.
The two new pieces on silk here appear to be morphing into pages. It's subconcious, pages, books, artist books must be in my DNA.
I particularly enjoyed stitching the row of web stitches which remind me of little 'iced gem' biscuits!
Embroidery, samples, hand stitching.....I'm relaxing a little with these whilst we have a break from Alchemy. I'm enjoying reconnecting with hand work, simple embroidery.
I love to work with paper as you know but that doesn't mean I have lost my love of cloth or simple, relaxing hand work.
It's a sample, purely a playful exercise, exactly the same relaxing and creative pastime as the pieces here.
The third piece of my latest sample puzzle is now finished.
These three pieces form a very lovely collection of embroidered swatches, sample pieces.
In the creation of these I have used prairie points, scalloped edges, padded cloth, hexagons, numerous hand embroidery stitches, patterned fabric, plain fabric, applique, pleated and gathered fabric and ribbon. (I may have left something out of this list....but you get my drift)
I have taken a deep breath and decided to list this selection of fabric pieces in the shop as a 'collection'

I've been taking stock of my Alchemy work as we are just about to go into a break with class, resuming after Christmas.
I've been assessing what I have done up to now and what still needs to be done.
There is definitely a need to create lace cloth so I can continue my sampling. There is also an excuse for more paperwork, (I will slot that into the 'design' aspect of class.)
I also plan to continue work on my latest cloth book.
That should be enough to keep me out of trouble.
