Way back, last year anyway I decided 2020 would be my year of artist books. In December of last year I said this,
''this is definitely where I am happiest....in 'that place' embellishing little sketchbooks, tiny notebooks and ledgers with stitch, beads, knots and buttons, creating my own heavily embellished pages from self made cloth, creating fluffy, soft, white and lace like fabrics...yes, definitely my happy place.''
This thinking is being reinforced every day, it's becoming my reality. My days are overloaded with ideas and possibilities for embellishing in book form. Problem seems like the wrong word for such a positive situation, to use for something I am more than happy to pursue but if there is a 'problem' it's creative overload and the confusion and lack of clarity that can produce.
For the past few days I have been working more in the little notebook you can see in the images today. Aside from these pages I am working on pieces for 'artist book explorations' which begins next week and which I can't share on here. Work on my little notebooks will continue and will be shared here regualarly however, as will work on my grids and guides book.
Since listing the new artist book class I have had a few questions concerning the notebooks and the grids and guides book, namely will they be included in this class. My main focus in 'artist book explorations' will be to sample ideas for self made books, sculptural books. These will be heavily embellished of course, there will be embroidery and titivation too. I have decided though to include grids and guides and notebooks as a little extra. The main focus will still be the creation of sculptural book forms but I can definitely squeeze in a little notebook stitching too. I hope that answers your queries but please drop me a mail if there is anything else you wish to ask.
Anyone who has ever taken a class with me will be aware that I am always open to short demonstrations of almost anything within reason should there be something in particular you wish to learn.
